The tragic end of Oladips: What we know about his death

Oladips, one of the most popular and influential Nigerian rappers, has been declared dead. He was 28 years old. His death shocked and saddened his fans, friends, and fellow artists, who took to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to his legacy.

Oladips, whose real name was Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, rose to fame in 2015 with his hit single “Bounce”, which showcased his unique style of rap, blending Yoruba and English languages with witty and catchy lyrics. He went on to release several successful songs and albums, such as “Chache”, “Places”, “Half Human Half Rap”, and “Mainland to Island”. He also collaborated with many prominent Nigerian musicians, such as Reminisce, Zlatan, Naira Marley, and Davido.

Oladips was widely regarded as one of the best rappers in Nigeria, and was praised for his versatility, creativity, and originality. He was also known for his outspokenness and activism, often addressing social and political issues in his songs. He was a vocal critic of the Nigerian government, especially the former president Muhammadu Buhari, whom he accused of corruption, incompetence, and human rights violations. He also supported the #EndSARS movement, which protested against police brutality and demanded reforms in the security sector.

A viral video showing the lifeless body of rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji was shared by a member of the rapper’s team called Rasheed.

The video, released Tuesday on Instagram, saw Rasheed and two other persons crying over the lifeless body of the ‘Chache’ crooner.

“Dips abeg, God abeg. Wein be this,” Rasheed cried.

Oladips’ death was announced by his management on his official Instagram account on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. They wrote:

We are saddened to inform the
general public that Oladipupo
Olabode Oladimeji aka OLADIPS
has passed away yesterday
Nov’14th Tuesday evening,at
exactly 10:14pm. We are still in
shock as we speak!
For over 2 years he has kept his
battles within himself, his body
is now with his family & funeral
services will be announced as
soon as it is concluded!
The family asked that we
respect their privacy in this
trying time. May God give us all
the fortitude to bear this great

Oladips’ death is a huge loss for the Nigerian music industry and the rap community. He was a talented and passionate artist who inspired many people with his music. He will be remembered for his contributions to the Nigerian rap scene and his impact on the Nigerian society. He will be greatly missed by his fans and his loved ones. May his soul rest in peace.
