During the FECAFOOT executive meeting that held in Yaoundé on February 5th 2024 to evaluate the poor performance of the indomitable lions of Cameroon at the ongoing AFCON, FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o tabled his resignation letter that was rejected by the executive committee. The question many people are asking is why doesn’t he wants to resign.
According to Sports-vibe.net, Samuel Eto’o reportedly informed the executive committee on January 19 that he wished to resign from his position as president of FECAFOOT.
The former Captain of the Indomitable Lions would have had a hard time seeing a member of the government impose the presence of Andre Onana in the Cameroon XI against Senegal during AFCON 2023.
What actually happened?
Before the match against Senegal, André ONANA asked Ernest OBAMA, spokesperson for the president of FECAFOOT, to speak to the Samuel Eto’o. But and Samuel ETOO told them that it was not the right moment to talk to the goalkeeper with whom he hasn’t spoken since the incident in Qatar)
The Manchester United goalkeeper insisted and Samuel ETOO agreed to receive him but unfortunately their conversation resulted in exchange of words.
Then André ONANA told Samuel ETOO that he knows that it was the president who ordered his sidelining in Qatar and that he had listened to the president say it from the phone call with Benoit ANGWA who had called Samuel Eto’o in front of André ONANA and had left the phone on loudspeaker.
André ONANA also called on the coordinator of the national team to come and confirm this version and the latter did not say a word in front of this declaration from the goalkeeper.
ONANA started calling ETOO a liar and raising his voice in front of the whole team, the manager and selector Rigobert SONG decided to bench André ONANA against Senegal because he was not mentally ready.
After this, some members of COMEX told Onana about a number of government officials who were will to impose him among the first 11 against Senegal. When Samuel Eto’o learned about this, he immediately called a video conference an announced his resignation in Ivory coast.the committee pleased with him to stay till the end of the competition.
While the members of the COMEX thought this was already over, Samuel ETOO once again presented his resignation letter during the executive meeting to evaluate the the performance of the Lions at the AFCON. A resignation that was completely rejected by the whole FECAFOOT executive committee

It should be noted that After Andre Onana resigned from international football, some government officials bypassed FECAFOOT to bring him back to the national team.
