Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman: A Biography

Early Life and Education

Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman was born in 1971 to Urdu-speaking Muhajir parents who had migrated from Aligarh, India during Partition of India. A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering was obtained by him from NED University of Engineering and Technology. Later, he pursued a Master’s degree in Islamic history from Karachi University. He is an engineer by profession, with 20 years of expertise as a water treatment engineer in industrial and large-scale residential projects.

Political Career

In early 90s, Rehman joined Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) and eventually served as its president twice. He became a member of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in 2000. He also held various positions in the party, such as Assistant Secretary, General Secretary and Deputy Emir of Karachi. In 2013, he was elected as the ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Karachi chapter.

However, he was unsuccessful in his attempt to win a seat in Sindh Provincial Assembly as a candidate of JI from Constituency PS-103 (Karachi-XV) in the same year.
